WILL OF HENRY PETTITT, 1 JULY 1715, PROVED 13 SEP. 1715
Summary: Thomas Pettitt, a resident of the Province of New York, wrote his last will and testament in which he left his movable estate to his beloved wife. He also divided his lands and properties among his sons, giving them an equal share. His daughters were to receive a sum of money when they reached their full age, which would be taken from the sons' share of the land and properties. After his death, his wife, Catherine Pettitt, was appointed as the executrix of his will. On the other hand, John Livingston, who also resided in New York, died intestate, and Andrew Clark was granted administration of his estate, including the collection of debts and payment of obligations.

In the name of God On this Twenty fourth Day of July in the first year of his majesties Reign 1715* and in the year of our Lord is, Thomas Pettitt of the Town of New Rochel in the County of West Chester in the province of New York Yeoman being Sick of Body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God and Calling to Remembrace the certain State of this Transitory Life and that all flesh must yeild unto Death when it Shall please God to Call Do make Constitute Ordain and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following Revoking and annulling by these presents all & Every Testament and Testaments Will and Wills heretofore by me made declared either by word or in writing and this is to be only taken for my Last Will and Testament and none other and my Body to be Buried in such place where it shall please my Executrix hereafter named to appoint And now for the Settling my Temporal Estate and such goods and Chattles and Debts as it hath pleased God far above my deserts to bestow upon me I Order give and Dispose in manner and form following that is to say , first I will that my beloved wife Catherin Pettitt to have hold use S Obert Oecupy admes Land and Living During her Natural By My Widow and likewise that she my Beloved Wife shall have all my moveable Estate for her own use or disposing after my Dewall Item I Give unto my Eldest Son Thomas Pottitt Ten Shillings Curt money of the province aforesaid is what I also gave time by Deed of Gift as by the said Deed of Gift more at Large Will and make appear and no more Item I give to my beloved Sons namely viz Benjamin Witt Joshua Pettit Samuel Pettitt Bartholomew Pettit Nathan Pettit and Daniel Branch my Son in Law them or either of them an equal Dividend or Share of Lands or Tenements Houses Barns or stables Gardens orchards or whatsoever of that Nature I leave behind mem or after my Decease and if any of my aforesaid sons as aforesaid Disbefore the other and without Issue that then his or their share shall be Equally shared amongst them that are living Item I give unto my Beloved Daughters Chrishan Pettit Branch Pettitt Twenty - four pounds Currant money of the province aforesaid when they arrive at their full age ( that is to Say Twelve pounds of the as like money and the same to be paid by equal share of my aforesd Sons Dividend or Share out of the Land and Livings as also my - Beloved wife to pay her proportion of moveable as I have her by free will as aforesaid and further I do appoint & constitute my Beloved my as aforesaid to be my Sole and Lawfull Executrix in head 1 or mis my Last Will and Testament 16 Witness whereof I have set to my hand and affixed my Seal the Day and year first above written Thomas Pettitt E Signed Baled pronounced published and Declared in the presence of us hereunder subscribed in John Moreau his Mark O Shephen Gerrien Susanna Content fily Gerard and unter Esqr Captain General and Govern in his provinces of New Yorketew Joney and Territories Depending thereon in Amina and be admiral of the Same & C To all to whom these presents shall Coun or may Come Greeting Know Ye that at New York the thirteenth Day of September the Last Will and Testament of Thomas Pettitt was proved approved and allowed by me having while heed at the time of his Death Goods Rights and Credit in divers places within this province by means whereof the full Disposition of all and singular the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said deed and the Granting administration of them also the hearing of Amount Calculation or Reckoning of said administration and the Pinal Discharge and Dismission from the same unto me Soly and not unto any other Inferiour Indgare manifestly known to belong and the administration of all and Singular the Goods Chattles Credit of the said Deced and his Last will and Testament many manner of ways Conveing was Granted unto Catherine petitt the Executrix in the said Last will and Testament named Chiefly of well and truly administering the Same and of making a true and perfect Inventory of all and Singular the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said Deced and Exhibiting the same into the Registry of the prerogative Court in the R Secretarys office of the province of New York at or before the thirteenth Day of March nextensing and of Rendering Coming when a Just and true account Calculation on thereunto required In Testimony whereof I have the prerogative Seal to be hereunto affixed at new york this tenth day of September...
