DNA RESULTS : helping my brother find bio/family

Hello, I hope whoever reads this that it finds you doing well.

My brother and I recently found out we are adopted. I have already found my biological family. I’m helping my brother find his.

Barbara Pettit Paddock who is 85 yrs old, and who has been super helpful is coming up as my brother’s FIRST cousin on his PATERNAL side.

Richard Pettit is coming up as his THIRD cousin.

My brother was born in Miami, FL on 05/12/1966.

Barbara says an Aunt of hers lived in Miami named Gladys who was married to James Cabrera and had 3 children (Suzanne, Marilyn & Curtis) …. we would love to check my brothers DNA with theirs to see how they made up.

Any information you can help us with will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much. Hope to hear from you soon.

My email is [email protected]

Thank you, Marieta

  • Hi Marieta,

It sounds like your brother has done an automatism DNA test from ancestry.com or similar company. These can be helpful for getting you in the right ballpark but are kind of limited. In addition to what has already been tested, your brother should consider doing a simple Y-DNA test. They can be had for less than $100 and there is a very high likelihood this will tell him the surname of his father. With a confirmed surname, the search can shift back to the cousin list you have and be narrowed down significantly. If he decides to do this, please post a response here so we can help.
