Asa T Pettit (ca. 1810-1861) & Sarah Ann Johns (1811-1883)

Asa T Pettit (ca. 1810-1861) & Sarah Ann Johns (1811-1883) are my paternal 3rd great grandparents. This line is from Kentucky. Anyone else in this line or have information about it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi. Do you have any other info on Asa Pettit and Sarah Ann Johns? Place of residence and children;s names might help make an association for someone.

It is believed that Asa Thomas Pettit (1810-1861) is a son of Thomas (1768-1837) & Martha (Patsey) [Ballard] (1767-1817) Pettit. The line starting with William Pettit (1736-1805) is documented at https://archive.org/details/pettusfamilycomp00stac/page/49/mode/1up. There is mention of Asa Thompson, the son of "Asa Thompson the lawyer", but it is unclear if Thompson is his surname or middle name. This son is listed as marrying the Sarah (Sally) Ann Johns who I mentioned in the beginning of this thread. If anyone is able to provide clarification of this relation and/or has more information about this line, I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • After cross checking with marriage records, I was able to confirm that "Asa Thompson, b. 2-1-1810 Ky., m. 6-24-1830 Sally Ann Johns" listed at https://archive.org/details/pettusfamilycomp00stac/page/49/mode/1up should have been Asa Pettit. The author of the document appears to have replicated "Asa Thompson the lawyer" who handled Asa's father's, Thomas Pettit, property purchase from "Charles Yancey of Louisa Co., Va." when listing Thomas Pettit's children - Nancy Kemper, Asa Thompson, Samuel, Lucinda Gibson, William, dau. m. John Price, dau. m. Madison Grooms and dau. m. Thomas Conley.

So, with this sorted out, if anyone has any additional information about this family line that can confirm and/or supplement the information at https://archive.org/details/pettusfamilycomp00stac/page/49/mode/1up, I'd greatly appreciate it.
