Enlisted to fight in the American Revolution at the age of 13 while living on Lawsons Fork of the Pacolet River in Spartanburg County, SC.\u00a0 Married Ann Poole.\u00a0 Lived on Pettit Mill Branch in SC until moving to Rutherford County, NC in XXXX.\u00a0 After his death, his children moved to Gilmer and Pickens County, GA.\u00a0 Generations later they spread to Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.<\/p>\n

Joshua Pettit Jr<\/p>\n
He married Judith Poole in Spartanburg County, SC.\u00a0 He owned thousands of acres of land around Pettit Mill Branch in SC where he and his brother Henry had a water powered mill and blacksmith forge.\u00a0 Some of his children stayed on this Pettit land and some moved to Alabama and Mississippi before the Civil War.\u00a0 Many of his descendnats still live in and around Spartanburg County, SC today.<\/p>\n
Benjamin Pettit b. 1769<\/p>\n
He married Elizabeth Hindman and lived near the Tyger River in Spartanburg County, SC.\u00a0 Some of his children moved to Georgia but a good number of descnednats still live in and around Spartanburg County, SC today.<\/p>\n
John Pettit b. 1771<\/p>\n
John married and lived on Peters Creek in Spartanburg County, SC.\u00a0 Most of his children remained in Spartanburg County, SC but John moved to Cherokee County, Georgia with his son Daniel Pettit towards the end of his life.\u00a0 John’s descendants include the Blount County, Alabama Pettits and the Cedartown, GA Pettits and a good number of descnednats still live in and around Spartanburg County, SC today.<\/p>\n
Nathan Pettit b. 1775<\/p>\n
Nathan Pettit married a woman named Levina and lived on Motlows Creek in Spartanburg County, SC.\u00a0 Later in life he moved across the country, eventually setting up a mill on Petit Creek in Hancock County, IL.\u00a0 His Pettit descendants originate from only one grandson, Austin Pettit, who moved from Ohio to Illinois and eventually to Hannibal, Missouri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
