The will of Joshua Pettit, husband of Judah

A typescript of Joshua Pettit, husband of Judah can be downloaded from the website of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History ( https://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/ ), search on "Pettit, Joshua."

Joshua Jr's will was dated 15 Dec. 1826 and recorded 15 Feb. 1828. Spartanburg District, Book B, Page 136.

He names his wife Judah; sons John, Joshua [III], Henry, Nathan, William; and daughters Elizabeth Waker [Walker?], Mary, Hannah and Rachel Hembree.

  • Thanks Larry. Henry Pettit Sr (b.1763) is my direct ancestor. The Joshua Pettit who married Judah/Judith and left a will is his brother. They are the sons of the older Joshua Pettit who associated with Richard Pearis. To my knowledge no probate info has ever been found for the older Joshua Pettit. I did a long (and probably somewhat boring) article on that here: The Death of Old Joshua Pettit of Spartanburg Co., SC 1780~1786.

    I'm always looking for more info on these folks as there are a lot of unanswered questions. Joshua Pettit the elder seems to have also been associated with Col. William Wofford. You'll recognize that name from a pre-revolutionary war meeting that occurred at his house mentioned in at least 3 accounts and which Mr. Pearis likely attended.
